Most tone changers send your text to a language model, which means an API key, a wait, a monthly limit, and your draft sitting in somebody's request logs. This one does not. It applies a deterministic transformation instead: contraction expansion and contraction, phrase substitution, hedge removal or insertion, and vocabulary shifts specific to each tone. The rewrite is instant, repeatable, and completely private. The same input always produces the same output, which is useful when you are comparing two phrasings.
The six tones do different jobs. Formal expands contractions and replaces colloquialisms, for anything customer-facing or legal. Casual goes the other way. Friendly adds warmth and softening openers. Assertive strips hedges: the I just wanted to and I think maybe padding that undermines a request. Diplomatic does the reverse, softening direct statements for feedback and difficult messages. Technical tightens vague words into precise ones.
Where it earns its place is the message you have already written and are not happy with. A Slack message that reads too blunt, a bug report that reads too apologetic, an email that needs to go up two levels of formality. Rewriting in a different tone and reading the two side by side is faster than trying to edit your way there from inside your own draft.
