Error Correction
These are static QR codes, meaning the data is encoded directly in the pattern. That has an important consequence. The destination cannot be changed after printing, but equally it cannot expire, cannot be tracked by a third party, and cannot stop working because a service shut down. Many free QR generators produce dynamic codes pointing at their own redirect domain: convenient until the domain lapses and every printed code is dead.
For print, size and quiet zone are what determine whether it scans. A rough rule is that the code should be at least a tenth of the scanning distance. A code read from two meters wants to be around 20 centimeters. Keep the quiet zone, the blank margin, at four modules minimum, and never place the code on a busy background.
